THY KINGDOM COME: YOU CANNOT GET THERE FROM HERE: (it's about the source and not about distance) JOHN THE BAPTIST SAID, " BEHOLD, THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS HERE."
Our Father (papa), who art in heaven (where all good things come), hallowed be thy name (let your name be seen as set apart from any name in existence or name that we have seen in the past), thy kingdom come... The kingdom has come in the form of our lord and savior Jesus Christ! The Lord's Prayer is a relational prayer from a son to his father; from a child (us) to their papa. too many times, we recite this prayer and feel as if god is a great distance from us. we have been missing the true meaning and relationship of our lord's prayer if we presume to feel it in this light. there is no distance or separation. jesus came and connected us with the father. God sent his son jesus to earth to come and get us and take us back to the kingdom of god. thy kingdom came in the form of Jesus! jesus comes and takes us back to where he is and this is where our intimacy with the father remains. the light that shines within every true believer is a light that exemplifies our intimacy with the father.
WE CANNOT GET THERE FROM HERE: (it's about the source- jesus; not about distance) In john 5:5-9 we see an example of the power of jesus in healing the invalid man: (5) "one who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. (6) when jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, 'do you want to get well?' (7) 'sir, the invalid replied, 'I have no one to help me into the pool. when the water is stirred. while I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.'" (8) then jesus said to him, "get up! pick up your mat and walk." (9) at once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked." two important things that we can gather from the example above: first, is that the man, like us, cannot help himself (We cannot get there from here). only jesus has the power to really and truly heal us and connect us with the father. where did this man's healing come from? where does our healing come from? are we the source? No, jesus is the source of all healing. secondly, because jesus healed this man on the Sabbath and because he prayed and healed on an equal basis with his father, the jews saw this as blasphemy and a threat to their own power, security, and authority. therefore, they had to get rid of him (glory to god because this was already a part of his divine plan anyway).
remember, that we do not have to work to get to the kingdom of god. the kingdom has already been given to us through jesus and he resides in us all the time. we exhibit kindness towards others, live godly lives, and perform acts of godliness because of who we are in Christ not because of our own doing. god isnot keeping score on how many good things we do. If we were able to "punch our tickets to heaven" by doing good works on our own, then we would not need jesus in the first place. it is impossible for us to generate anything good to give to our father. everything good comes from God. we have nothing to offer god and god wants nothing from us but relationship. God does the rest. It is not from here to there, it's from there (God sent Jesus to earth) to here.
THE KINGDOM OF GOD: To conclude, we must remember that god never wants a fear -based relationship. god wants a connected and loving relationship. 1ST CORINTHIANS 4:20 -21 SAYS, " FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS NOT A MATTER OF TALK BUT OF POWER. (21) SHALL I COME TO YOU WITH A ROD OF DISCIPLINE, OR SHALL I COME IN LIOVE AND WITH A GENTLE SPIRIT? because of god's love, he let's us experience every agony and consequence of living in the flesh. he does this in order to weed out the flesh so that what is left over is only faith in him. god changes us and we become representatives of his kingdom because the kingdom lives within us, we are direct evidence of god's kingdom. we are direct evidence of god's decision to send his only begotten son to earth to grab us and take us back. and we are evidence that we no longer have faith in our flesh, but we only have faith in him.
IN 1ST CORINTHIANS 2:4-5 PAUL SAYS, " MY MESSAGE AND MY PREACHING WERE NOT WITH WISE AND PERSUASIVE WORDS, BUT WITH A DEMONSTRATION OF THE SPIRIT'S POWER, (5) SO THAT YOUR FAITH MIGHT NOT REST ON HUMAN WISDOM, BUT ON GOD'S POWER."
