IN THIS MANNER:
AS Jesus is sharing with the disciples on how to pray, the disciples are witnessing an amazing relational prayer from Jesus to His Father. Jesus prayed without fear or condemnation. It was a supernatural sight to the disciples! Before this intimate display of love between a Son and His Father, most prayer was done in a repetitive and disconnected manner. It was unheard of and unthinkable that one could approach God in a relational manner. The Jews prayed to God in a way that was disconnected. Their prayer begged as if God was holding out on blessings. Their thought was that if they prayed or begged enough, God would eventually hear their cries and He would bestow blessings upon them. To the Jews, Jesus' prayer seemed like heresy and eventually it would be the reason for their crucifixion of Him. Jesus would tell the disciples that they will not understand His relational prayer until the Spirit comes and indwells them.
. THE LORD'S PRAYER:
"OUR FATHER" The Lord's Prayer is recited by believers and non believers. It is said in locker rooms before football games and it begins many church services. The Lord's Prayer is very special to billions of people throughout the world. But, we need to understand what this prayer is truly about. The Lord's Prayer, as Jesus first showed His disciples, is a deep relational prayer that connects us with our Father. It also reveals God's grace, forgiveness, a security of providing, a promise of His kingdom, and a deliverance from evil and temptation.
The Lord's Prayer transcends all of our pain, addiction and sin. As Jesus prayed this prayer to His Abba (Father), He was bringing it from heaven to earth. Jesus brings Heaven and the kingdom (Jesus is the kingdom) with Him. As Jesus was, when we pray this prayer, we are praying in perfect oneness, unity, and confidence with our Father. When we are saved and born again, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us and "This Manner," (yes the same "Manner" as Jesus), is bestowed and engrafted onto our hearts . As we pray Our Lord's Prayer, we pray with relationship, confidence, and unity. As God adopted His Son, we are adopted sons and daughters. There is no separation just love and relationship.
THE MEANING OF OUR LORD'S PRAYER:
"OUR FATHER" These two words represent a direct relationship between Jesus and his father; a direct relationship from us to our Father.

BACKGROUND TO MATTHEW 6:5-9
Christ saw it necessary to show his disciples how to intimately pray to our "Abba" or Father . In Matthew 6:5-9 Christ tells His disciples, "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. (6) But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (7) And when you pray, do not keep babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. (8) Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
(9) This, then, is how you should pray or PRAY IN THIS MANNER:"
